Japan Sport Council signs the Memorandum of Understanding with Aspire Academy, Hong Kong Sports Institute and Singapore Sports Council for the establishment of Association of Sports Institutes in Asia (ASIA)

On Wednesday 25 February, at AJINOMOTO National Training Center in Tokyo, the Japan Sport Council signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Aspire Academy, Hong Kong Sports Institute, and Singapore Sports Council for the establishment of Association of Sports Institutes in Asia (ASIA).
 
ASIA is a non-profit, non-government organization; it is a representative body for the group of high performance sports institutes in Asia. The ASIA develops its main activity at the Asian level with the aim to foster the best practices in the area of long term Asian athlete development through a comprehensive model of collaboration, exchange of expertise and networking opportunities for athletes, coaches, directors, and administrators of high performance across all of Asia.

The Japan Sport Council is committed to develop the platform for sharing, collaboration, development, and leadership of Asian high performance sports institutes together with partners. Within the framework, the Ajinomoto National Training Center and the Japan Institutes of Sports Sciences as the High Performance Center in Nighigaoka area, will be mainly involved as a part of the JSC.

In ASIA, Mr. Takahiro Waku, Japan Sport Council, will be the Chair, Mr. Bob Gambardella Singapore Sports Institute, and Mr. Tim Cable, ASPIRE Academy, will be Vice chair, and Dr. Raymond So, Hong Kong Sports Institute, will take a role as Secretary and Treasurer.

On signing of the MOU, Mr. Takatani said: 
We are delighted to sign the MOU for the establishment of the ASIA after discussions more than three years. We hope the ASIA to be a great platform for collaboration that brings mutual benefits to all athletes, coaches, support staffs, directors and sports institutes in Asia.
