The Japan Sport Council(JSC) participated and held for the first time a booth at the Sport Accord Convention 2013 (May 28-30), where the sporting world meets.
The Sport Accord Convention is an annual international conference held by the Sport Accord, the organization that brings together sports federations from around the world. This year edition of the Convention took place in Saint Petersburg, Russia. According to official announcement, it gathered 2354 people from 58 countries. Famous on a global scale, the Convention provides the participants high quality seminars on hosting major sporting events, but also opportunities for international sports federations, cities, and governmental organizations in the development of sport to communicate with the world by holding booths.
Drawing the attention of the world for three days, the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic bid cities including Tokyo performed a presentation, and the shortlist of sports for possible inclusion as an additional sport on the 2020 Olympic Program was revealed.
JSC along with the Japan Sport Tourism Alliance (JSTA) held the JAPAN booth during the event. Focusing on the design of the New National Stadium Japan which will be the main stadium for 2019 Rugby World Cup and possible 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, JSC showcased its activities such as research and support for high performance sport, funding programs for sport development in Japan etc. The staff, wearing kimono, welcomed and presented not only sport but also it’s culture to more than 2000 visitors.
